Privacy Policy
Trip Chronicle · Last updated 15 August 2026
Trip Chronicle does not send your personal data to the developer. There are no accounts, analytics, advertising, or developer-operated servers. Your trips, routes, locations, photos, receipts, notes, and expenses stay on your iPhone unless you explicitly export or share them.
Trips, location, and motion data
Trip Chronicle uses location information to record journey routes, calculate distance, identify possible stops, and organize your road-trip journal. Manual recording works with While Using location access and does not require Motion access. If you choose to enable automatic recording, the app also uses motion information and requires Always location access so it can detect and record vehicle travel while the phone is locked or another app is open. This information is processed by the app and stored locally on your iPhone. The developer cannot see or access it. You can change location and motion permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Maps and place lookup
Trip Chronicle uses Apple MapKit to display maps, search for places, and turn coordinates into readable place names. When you use these features, Apple may process map searches or location coordinates under Apple’s Privacy Policy. This data is not sent to the developer, and the developer has no access to Apple’s processing of it.
Photos and receipt images
Photos and receipt images are added only when you choose or capture them. Copies used by Trip Chronicle are stored locally in the app's private storage. Receipt text recognition uses Apple's on-device Vision technology; receipt images and recognized text are not sent to the developer. You can remove stored receipt images without deleting the associated expense records.
Notes and expenses
Journal notes, captions, expense amounts, currencies, categories, merchant names, payment details, and links to journeys or stops are stored locally on your device. The developer cannot access them.
Notifications
Journey-review prompts, tracking alerts, and journal reminders are scheduled locally using iOS notifications. You can enable or disable each notification type inside the app. Notification content is not sent to the developer.
Backups and exports
Backups and exports are created only when you request them. Depending on the export you choose, a file may contain trip dates, routes, exact locations, notes, expenses, photos, or receipt images. The app presents the standard iOS share or file interface so you choose where that file is saved or who receives it. Once shared outside the app, the selected destination's privacy practices apply.
Diagnostics
Tracking diagnostics are stored locally to help explain journey-detection behavior. Diagnostic exports exclude precise coordinates by default; you may choose to include them when creating an export. A diagnostic file leaves the app only when you explicitly export and share it.
No accounts, analytics, ads, or tracking
Trip Chronicle has no user accounts and contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. The developer cannot see or access your personal data unless you deliberately send an exported file to the developer. The developer does not sell, rent, or share your personal data.
Data retention and deletion
Your data remains on your iPhone until you remove it. The app provides controls to delete an individual trip, remove stored receipt images, or delete all app data. Deleting the app also removes its locally stored data, subject to any device backups you control. Files you previously exported must be deleted from their saved destinations separately.
Children
Trip Chronicle is not designed to collect personal information from anyone, including children. Travel information stays on the device unless the user explicitly exports or shares it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
